Hari Rama Murthy is a distinguished Kuchipudi guru and the Principal of Kuchipudi Kalakshetra in Visakhapatnam, India. Born into a family of traditional Kuchipudi dancers in Kuchipudi village, his lineage includes notable ancestors like Hari Ponnaiah, Hari Chalapathi, Chinta Venkatramaiah, and Chinta Ramamurthy. He commenced his formal dance education at the age of 15, following his schooling. His initial training was received at Siddhendra Yogi Kalapeetham under the tutelage of Pasumarthy Krishna Sharma and Chinta Ramamanatham. Subsequently, he honed his skills under the legendary Padmabhushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam at the Kuchipudi Art Academy in Chennai, where he was meticulously groomed in his guru's distinctive baani (style). Further enriching his academic credentials, Hari Rama Murthy earned diplomas in Kuchipudi and Yakshaganas from Potti Sriramulu Telugu University. He is widely recognized for his rigorous training methodologies, emphasizing discipline and hard work among his students, a practice he adopted from his own intensive training under Vempati Chinna Satyam. As a performer, he has played principal roles in numerous dance dramas choreographed by Guru Vempati Chinna Satyam, skillfully portraying a diverse range of characters including Dasaratha, Narada, Kamsa, Arjuna, and Bhagiratha. His performances have graced stages extensively across India and internationally. As a choreographer, Hari Rama Murthy has created various Kuchipudi items and ballets, notably the "Mohini Bhasmasura" ballet. He has been instrumental in leading the Kuchipudi Kalakshetra in Visakhapatnam, an institution originally founded by Vempati Chinna Satyam in 1985. His dedication to imparting the classical art form began around 1982, having been groomed by his guru for this purpose.
