Thokchom Ibemubi Devi, born in 1963 in Keishampat Thokchom Leikai, Imphal, is a distinguished exponent, performer, and choreographer of Manipuri Dance. Her journey in classical dance began at a young age, and by 1971, at the age of eight, she commenced her formal training at the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) in Imphal. She completed both diploma and post-diploma courses in Manipuri Dance from JNMDA. Ibemubi Devi received specialized training from an array of eminent gurus, including Thiyam Tarunkumar Singh, R.K. Priyogopalsana, Th. Babu, Tondon Devi, Th. Chaotombi Singh, Th. Suryamukhi Devi, Smt. L Thambalngoubi Devi, (late) Guru Rajani Maibi, and Guru Kumar Maibi. She also received tutelage in Manipuri classical solo dance from Gurus Th. Tarunkumar, Th. Babu Singh, and Smt. Tondon Devi. Throughout her career, Ibemubi Devi has been a prolific performer, participating in over thirty-five dance dramas and assisting in numerous productions. She has choreographed and presented several classical Manipuri solo dance items and has conducted many lecture-cum-demonstrations on Manipuri Dance on both national and international platforms. Her performances have taken her across the globe, including countries such as China, North Korea, France, Italy, Bulgaria, South Korea, Thailand, Philippines, USSR, England, Scotland, Germany, Myanmar, USA, and Bangladesh. She is recognized for her irresistible appeal as a performer, exuding emotional content that evokes the subtleties and nuances of Manipuri Dance. Ibemubi Devi is also a Junior Production Assistant in the Production Unit of JNMDA, where she was one of the founder artistes of the Academy's Ballet Unit. She has also acted in the film "Sangai- The Dancing deer" directed by Aribam Syam Sharma and the documentary film "Geet Govinda". Her mastery extends to styles like Gour Leela and Krishna Leela. Awards & Honours: Manipur State Kala Akademi Award (2011), India-Nepal Friendship International Award, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (2021).
