Ivana Sarkar is an accomplished Indian classical dancer specializing in the Manipuri style, a graceful and devotional dance form originating from Manipur, India. Born and raised in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, Sarkar began her journey into the world of Manipuri dance at a very tender age, receiving her initial training under the tutelage of Smt. Jhinuk Chakraborty. This early foundation laid the groundwork for her profound dedication to the art form. For the past decade, Ivana Sarkar has been undergoing advanced and intensive training under the esteemed guidance of Guru Smt. Guru Kalavati Devi and her daughter, Smt. Bimbavati Devi. This rigorous discipleship connects her to a rich lineage of Manipuri dance, as Guru Kalavati Devi is one of the co-founders of Manipuri Nartanalaya. As a performing artiste, Sarkar is closely associated with Manipuri Nartanalaya, a pioneering institute of Manipuri Dance established by the legendary Lt. Guru Bipin Singh, Guru Kalavati Devi, and the renowned Jhaveri sisters. Through this affiliation, she has graced numerous stages, participating in various festivals and cultural programs across India and internationally. Her international performances with Manipuri Nartanalaya have taken her to countries such as Bangladesh, Fiji, and Germany, showcasing the beauty of Manipuri dance to global audiences. Beyond her ensemble work, Ivana Sarkar also maintains a vibrant solo career, performing extensively in various festivals as an independent artist. Her talent and commitment to preserving and promoting Manipuri dance have earned her significant recognition. She is an empaneled artist of both the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) and the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY), platforms that support and disseminate Indian classical arts. Furthermore, she has been honored with the 'Nritya Koumudhi' award by the Visakha Arts and Dance Association, Visakhapatnam, and is a recipient of the Junior National Fellowship, underscoring her emerging prominence in the field of Indian classical dance.
