Kavita Dwibedi is a distinguished Indian classical Odissi dancer, choreographer, teacher, and institution head, widely recognized as one of the leading exponents of Odissi dance in India today. Born the daughter and disciple of veteran Odissi maestro Guru Harekrishna Behera, she began her training at the tender age of eight, embarking on a professional career that has spanned over two decades. Dwibedi holds a Visharad (B.A.) in Odissi dance from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, New Delhi, and a Post Graduate degree in Sociology from Delhi University. Known for her graceful movements, supple footwork, expressive eyes, and superb abhinaya (expressiveness), Kavita Dwibedi's performances are celebrated for their pristine and divine quality, captivating audiences nationally and internationally. She is empanelled with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in the "Outstanding" Category, holds a "TOP" grade artiste status with Doordarshan, and is recognized as an "Outstanding Category Artist" by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Her extensive international tours, sponsored by ICCR, have taken her to numerous countries across Scandinavia, Europe, the USA, Australia, and Asia, representing India at significant cultural events. As a prolific choreographer, Dwibedi has created numerous works based on traditional Chhanda music of Odisha, including acclaimed pieces like "Ritu – Rang" (Seasons of Love), "Proshitapatika," "Saptatala Dhyaan," "Khajuraho Vaibhav," and "Jugalbandis" integrating Manipuri, Bharatanatyam, and Kathak elements. Her recent choreographies include "Sati Vrindavati," "Jai Maa Yamune," "Shiv Panchakshara," and "Kalijai." She is the Founder Director of Odissi Akademi in Delhi, established in 1991, where she imparts training to young aspirants and engages in research to enrich the Odissi repertoire. She is also the Founder Trustee of "Sanchari Foundation," Delhi. Dwibedi has organized global workshops and conducted Lec-Dems for SPIC MACAY across India to promote Indian culture. Her contributions to the arts have been recognized with numerous awards and distinctions.
