Krishan Mohan Maharaj, born on September 20, 1954, is a distinguished Indian classical Kathak dancer and guru, belonging to the illustrious Lucknow Kalka-Bindadin Gharana. He is the eldest son of the legendary Kathak guru Pandit Shambhu Maharaj and a cousin of Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj. Maharaj began his rigorous training in Kathak from his father at a young age, performing publicly from the age of eight. Following his father's untimely demise in 1970, he further specialized his dance education under the tutelage of Pandit Birju Maharaj at esteemed institutions such as Sri Ram Bhartiya Kala Kendra and Kathak Kendra in New Delhi. Throughout his career, Krishan Mohan Maharaj has established himself as a professional Kathak performer and a revered teacher. He is currently a senior Kathak guru at the National Institute Kathak Kendra, New Delhi. He also serves as the President of Abhyas and a Kathak Guru at Kathak Nrityashala. His dedication to the art form has led him to train numerous students who have achieved success at both national and international levels. In recognition of his profound contributions to Kathak dance, Krishan Mohan Maharaj (cited as Krishan Mohan Mishra (Maharaj)) was honored with the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2025 by the Sangeet Natak Akademi and the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
