Lakshmi Venkatesh is a prominent figure in Bharatanatyam, known for her dedication to the classical Indian dance form as a teacher, guru, and institution head. She received her training in Bharatanatyam under Padma Shri awardees in Chennai, India, establishing a strong foundation in the traditional aspects of the art. Lakshmi Venkatesh is the founder and artistic director of the Lakshmi Academy of Dance, an institution that has been instrumental in propagating Bharatanatyam to a wide range of students. The academy, which celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 2018, suggests its establishment around 1993, indicating a long-standing commitment to dance education. Based primarily in Dubai, UAE, Lakshmi Venkatesh also maintains connections with Chennai, India, where she received her initial training. Her academy caters to a diverse age group, training students from six to sixty years old, fostering a love for Bharatanatyam across generations. Through her YouTube channel, "Lakshmi Venkatesh-A Creative Space For Dance," she shares her philosophy, which is rooted in the sacred wisdom of Nāṭyaśāstra, celebrating Bharatanatyam as a timeless medium of spiritual connection and human expression. The channel emphasizes dance as storytelling, recreating Indian epics and history with a strong focus on abhinaya, rhythm, and body geometry, encouraging dancers to think deeply and express ideas with clarity.
