Mamata Nayak, also known as Mamata Biswas, is an accomplished Odissi dancer and teacher. She began her journey in Odissi dance during her teenage years, taking her first steps under the tutelage of Guru Gaur Charan Nayak of Balasore, Odisha. Her dedication to the art form led her to be conferred with the title "Nritye Shree" in recognition of her performances. Mamata Nayak further honed her skills under the guidance of legendary Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra, as well as his prominent disciples Srimati Debi Basu and Aloka Kanungo. Throughout her career, she has performed in numerous prestigious dance festivals both in India and internationally, earning acclaim and recognition for her distinctive dance style. Beyond her performing career, Mamata Nayak is committed to propagating the Odissi tradition. She founded and currently runs Natya Niketan, a center in Navi Mumbai dedicated to teaching Odissi dance. Through this institution, she guides aspiring talents and budding dancers, ensuring the continuation of the Guru-shishya parampara (teacher-disciple tradition) in Odissi.
