Manorama Devi, a distinguished Indian classical dancer specializing in the Manipuri dance form, was born on February 2nd, 1967. Her journey into the world of Manipuri dance began under the guidance of her elder sister, Guneshwari Devi, at the Manipuri Nartanalaya in Imphal. She further honed her skills through rigorous training with esteemed gurus such as Kalavati Devi and Darshana Jhaveri. Demonstrating a deep commitment to her art, Manorama Devi also undertook the traditional 'Gurukulavas' at the residence of Guru Bipin Singh, a testament to her dedication to the classical tradition. Throughout her career, Manorama Devi has graced numerous prestigious stages across India, both as a solo artist and as part of performances with the renowned Jhaveri Sisters. Her notable performances include appearances at the National Centre of Performing Arts in Bombay in 1993, the Nrityotsav organized by the West Bengal Dance Group Federation in 1994, and the Ghungroo Festival presented by the Government of Madhya Pradesh in the same year. She also captivated audiences at the esteemed Bhagyachandra National Festival of Dance in Imphal in 1995 and the Konark Festival in 1995. Her artistry was also showcased on Doordarshan Kendra Calcutta, and she participated in the opening ceremony of the Asian Games in New Delhi in 1982. Manorama Devi's talent and dedication have been recognized with several accolades. She was awarded the First Prize in Manipuri Dance at the Sangeetotsav organized by the West Bengal State Music Academy in 1992. In 1993, she received the prestigious Shringar Mani award at the Kal-ke-Kalakar Sangeet Sammelan, presented by Sur Sirigar Samsad, Bombay. That same year, the Government of India honored her with the National Cultural Talent Scholarship (Senior Scheme), and she earned her Diploma (Nartan Visharad) from the Manipuri Nartanalaya. Her contributions have solidified her position as a respected figure in Indian classical dance.
