Maulik Shah, born on September 3, 1958, in Tatan, Gujarat, India, is a highly acclaimed Kathak exponent. He received his rigorous training under the tutelage of the eminent Kathak guru Shrimati Kumudini Lakhia at Kadamb in Ahmedabad. Shah is recognized as one of India's outstanding male dancers, celebrated for his exceptional command over the Kathak medium and his innovative approach to presentation. Throughout his illustrious career, Maulik Shah has performed extensively, both nationally and internationally, captivating audiences in over forty countries. His international engagements include a significant North American tour in 1993, which featured his first solo recital in the United States at the James Armstrong Theater in Torrance. He has also been invited to perform at prestigious events such as the Kuopio Dance Festival in Finland and the Opening Ceremony of The Festival of India at the Kremlin Theatre in Moscow. Maulik Shah, along with Ishira Parikh, co-founded the Anart Foundation in Ahmedabad in 1994. This cultural institution, also known as Aanart Dance Company and Aanart School of Kathak Dance, plays a vital role in enriching Gujarat's cultural landscape. The foundation achieves this by organizing workshops, hosting performances by renowned dance artists, and providing financial support to emerging young talent in the dance world. His profound contributions to Kathak dance have earned him several prestigious accolades. In 2018, Maulik Shah and Ishira Parikh were jointly honored with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, India's highest recognition in the performing arts. He is also a recipient of the Gaurav Puraskar from the Government of Gujarat and the Sringarmani award from Sur Singar Samsad.
