🪔 About
Mayurakshi Mitra is an accomplished Indian classical dancer specializing in Odissi. Her journey in dance began at the tender age of three, learning Indian Classical Ballet under Guru Valmiki Banerjee for approximately eight years, where she was introduced to the fundamentals of various forms including Kathakali, Manipuri, Indian Ballet, and Folk Dance. At six, she commenced her specialized training in Odissi, delving into the Guru Deba Prasad style under the guidance of Late Guru Srinath Raut, focusing on the foundational elements of the dance form as per Natya Shastra and Abhinaya Darpana. In 1992, she further honed her Odissi skills at the Jayantika school under the revered Padamshri Guru Mayadhar Raut, where she mastered the intricate nuances of Mudra Viniyoga and Sancharibhava. She also holds a Sangeet Visharad from Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh. Mayurakshi Mitra is currently continuing her training at the Devarchana Kala Mandir under Guru Dibakar Khuntia. Throughout her career, Mayurakshi has been recognized for her strong rhythmic footwork and delicate postures, which combine in an appealing flow of sculpturesque movements. She has been a frequent participant in various competitions, often earning the title of “Best Dancer.” Her performance highlights include participating in Guru Mayadhar Raut's dance drama 'Abhisapta Konarak' for Doordarshan and presenting 'Ardhanarishwara,' a piece choreographed by Guru Mayadhar Raut, in 2001. She is an empanelled artiste of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), a Junior Research Fellow from the Ministry of Culture, an 'A' grade artiste of Doordarshan Kendra (New Delhi), and an empanelled artiste of SPICMACAY. Mayurakshi has graced numerous significant dance platforms across India, including the Uday Shankar Dance Festival in Kolkata, Konarak Dance Festival, International Odissi Dance Festival, Guru Pankaj Utsav, and the 'Horizon Series' organized by ICCR. In 2016, she performed an Odissi recital at Epicentre in Gurgaon. She also choreographed 'Krishnaleela' at the Lok Kala Manch, New Delhi. Mayurakshi Mitra plans to teach Odissi dance to aspiring students at her Shinjini School of Odissi Dance in New Delhi, following the Guru-Shishya parampara. She holds a science degree and a Masters in Computers, having pursued a successful career in Information Technology for over a decade. Awards & Honours: Parampara Award (2009).
