Mayuri Boonham is a prominent figure in South Asian dance in Britain, recognized as an experienced Bharatanatyam dancer and choreographer. She received her Bharatanatyam training under Prakash Yadagudde at the Bhavan Centre, Institute of Indian Fine Arts and Culture, London, culminating in her traditional debut solo performance (arangetram) in 1996. In 1997, Boonham co-founded Angika with Subathra Subramaniam, serving as joint artistic director, choreographer, and principal dancer until the company's closure in 2008. During this period (1998-2008), she co-created and performed in numerous Bharatanatyam duet and ensemble productions, which toured extensively across the UK and Europe. Her roles at The Place included Associate Artist (1998-1999) and joint Choreographer-in-Residence (2004-2006). In 2009, Mayuri Boonham launched ATMA Dance, where she serves as Artistic Director and Choreographer. ATMA Dance quickly produced touring works like 'Sivaloka' and 'Ghatam', both nominated for the London Fringe Festival Awards in 2011. Boonham was appointed Choreographer-in-Residence at The Royal Ballet Studio programme between 2012-2014, during which she created new works commissioned by The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera. Her creative endeavors often involve cross-disciplinary collaborations with international artists, musicians, and designers, pushing the boundaries of Bharatanatyam by infusing contemporary art forms. She has also curated 'Art to Dance', a fine arts exhibition, and mentored upcoming dancers and choreographers at various institutions. Awards & Honours: London Fringe Festival Award Nomination (2011).
