Mudhra Bhaskar is a highly accomplished Mridangam artist and a prominent cultural organizer in the realm of Indian classical arts, particularly Carnatic Music. With over 46 years of concert experience, he is recognized as an accomplished Mridangam vidwan. He commenced his mridangam training under Shri. Mannargudi A. Easwaran and further honed his skills through advanced training with Guru Shri. Karaikudi R. Mani and Thiruvarur Shri. Bakthavatsalam. His arangetram (debut concert) took place in 1980 at Thiagaraja Vidwath Samajam, Chennai. Bhaskar is the founder of "Mudhra," a full-fledged sabha (cultural organization) inaugurated on June 12, 1995, in Chennai. Through Mudhra, he has introduced numerous innovative concepts in Carnatic music and has been a pioneer in reviving the traditional four-hour concert format. Mudhra is not merely a sabha but a cultural movement, actively involved in promoting various fine arts, including music, dance, drama, and cinema. The organization has honored renowned dance figures, such as the dance couple V.P. Dhananjayan and Shanta Dhananjayan, with the Mudhra Award of Excellence. He is also the founder trustee of "Paalam," an art forum co-founded with his wife, Dr. Radha Bhaskar, a vocal musician and musicologist. Paalam aims to bridge fine arts, artists, and art lovers, notably through the launch of Paalam TV in 2013, which pioneered 52-week free webcasts of music, dance, and drama programs. Paalam Radio, a 24x7 web radio facility, was launched in 2017. Bhaskar has also established Mudhra Music Studio in Nungambakkam. Additionally, he is known for publishing the acclaimed Music Planner-cum-Directory for over two decades and served as an Associate Editor, designer, and printer for the monthly fine arts magazine Samudhra.
