Madhavapeddi Murthy is an eminent Kuchipudi exponent and a distinguished torchbearer of the classical Indian dance tradition. He is the son of the celebrated playback singer, the late Madhavapeddi Satyam. Murthy trained under Padma Bhushan Guru Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam, founder-director of the Kuchipudi Art Academy in Chennai, for over 20 years. He began his Kuchipudi training at the Kuchipudi Art Academy in T Nagar, Chennai, on December 3, 1973. He also received training in classical music for a few years. Throughout his career, which spans 50 years, Murthy has played key roles in landmark Kuchipudi dance-dramas choreographed by his guru. He has been the male lead in Smt. Hema Malini's dance ballets for over 31 years, participating in more than 750 ballet performances. As a cultural ambassador of India, Murthy has performed Kuchipudi in over 25 countries across five continents, conducting performances, lecture-demonstrations, and workshops. He has graced major festivals across India, including the Taj Mahotsav, Puri Beach Festival, Malabar Mahotsav, Khajuraho Festival, and Kuchipudi Mahotsav, among many others. He has also performed for various corporates, cultural organizations, and religious events nationwide. In 1995, Murthy founded the SIVA Foundation in Chennai, a cultural organization established on May 1, 1995. Initially a School of Kuchipudi Dance, it has expanded to organize cultural events and recognize individuals across the arts. For more than three decades, Murthy has trained over a thousand students worldwide and continues to inspire emerging artists in Kuchipudi.
