Dr. Naresh Pillai, also known as Pt. Nareshkumar Pillai, is a prominent Indian classical dancer, teacher, choreographer, and Nattuvanar specializing in Bharatanatyam. He is recognized for his innovative efforts and evocative performances, combining strong footwork with stage techniques. Dr. Pillai received his initial training from Smt. Jayashree Narayanan and further honed his skills in Bharatanatyam under the tutelage of the acclaimed Dr. Kanak Rele. He holds a Master's in Fine Arts & Choreography (MFA) with a first class from Mumbai University, a Bachelor of Performing Arts (BPA) from Pondicherry University, and a B.A. in Sanskrit from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Mumbai. He has performed extensively both in India and internationally, including at the Himachal Pradesh State Festival organized by the Sangeet Natak Academy and the Department of Culture. Dr. Naresh Pillai is the Artistic Director and Founder of Kalalaya Nrithya Academy, located in Powai, Mumbai, where he has been teaching for over two decades. His choreography has been lauded by critics, and his performances have received appreciation in national dailies. Under his guidance, students of Kalalaya Nrithya Academy have achieved state and national level awards and have performed at various national and international festivals.
