Nilanjana Roy is an accomplished Indian classical dancer and teacher specializing in the Odissi dance form, primarily based in the Bay Area, USA. She is a senior disciple of the esteemed Guru Jyoti Rout, under whose tutelage she has honed her Odissi skills and developed her artistic expression. Prior to her immersion in Odissi, Roy received training in other classical Indian dance styles, namely Kathak and Bharatanatyam. She began her formal Odissi training around 2008. As a dedicated performer, Nilanjana Roy has presented Odissi on various platforms. In 2012, she performed in Bhubaneshwar, India, at an event organized by Jyoti Kala Mandir, where her guru, Jyoti Rout, personally tied the ghungroos (ankle bells) on stage. More recently, in March 2024, she was a featured solo artist at the Odissi Milan event in Milpitas, CA, organized by Jyoti Kala Mandir, where she performed "Chandana Charchita," a piece originally choreographed by Guru Jyoti Rout. Beyond her performing career, Roy is a committed educator. She serves as a senior teacher at Jyoti Kala Mandir, an institution dedicated to promoting Indian culture and traditions, where she has been teaching for over 12 years. Her role involves nurturing new talent and passing on the traditions of Odissi dance to students in the Bay Area. In addition to her artistic pursuits, Nilanjana Roy holds a master's degree in economics and finance and maintains a career in Corporate Finance.
