Parbati Chaudhury is a London-based Kathak artist, performer, teacher, choreographer, writer, and dramaturg. Her artistic practice is deeply rooted in the choreographic, musical, and storytelling traditions of Kathak, while also incorporating contemporary approaches to visualization, text, and sound. Chaudhury began her Kathak training at the age of eight at The Bhavan, London, with her first teacher, Sushmita Ghosh. She later trained with Urja Desai Thakore, Artistic Director at Pagrav Dance Company, where Chaudhury is an Associate Artist. Chaudhury's career has seen her evolve into a multifaceted dance artist. She has been involved with Akademi since 2007, initially attending their Artist Auditions. In 2012, she was selected for Akademi's outdoor spectacle "Bells," marking her first professional performance experience. She started assisting Urja Desai Thakore in Kathak classes and began teaching with Pagrav Dance Company in 2013. Chaudhury was awarded an Akademi Choreography Commission in 2017, which helped establish her pathway as a dance maker. In 2020, her piece "Fader" was highly praised by critics at The Place's Resolution Festival. She also received a Choreography Award Holder recognition from Fabric Dance in 2020. As a teacher, Chaudhury leads Kathak classes for Pagrav Dance Company, independently, and serves as the Kathak Lead Artist at Fabric's CAT-Yuva Gati. Since 2025, she has directed Pagrav's youth company, Aarohi, which performed her choreography "Lathos" at Sadler's Wells' "Making Moves" in the same year. She founded her own company, Lit Path, which comprises two strands: Kindle, focusing on multidisciplinary works, and Sparks, dedicated to nurturing learning and community building through Kathak classes. Her recent choreographic works include "Fader," "Goodgirl," and "Her Song" (formerly "Janma Bhumi"). In 2025, she also took on her first role as a dramaturg.
