🪔 About

Guru Poushali Mukherjee was a distinguished Indian classical Odissi dancer, teacher, choreographer, and institution head based in Kolkata, India. She received her initial dance training from Shree Muralidhar Majhi in Calcutta, and later honed her skills under the tutelage of the legendary Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. She also took lessons from Shrimati Sanjukta Panigrahi and Shrimati Kalanidhi Narayan. Poushali Mukherjee was an able teacher in the Odissi style and served as a lecturer in dance at Rabindra Bharati University, Calcutta. For many years, she assisted her guru in his teaching and choreography work in Calcutta before establishing her own institution. She was also proficient in playing the Pakhawaj and Mardala. Since the early 1980s, she performed in numerous cultural centers and dance festivals across India. She founded the Poushali Mukherjee Dance Academy, an Odissi dance institution, which was established as early as 1988. Her work and aesthetics are celebrated, with conferences such as the "Odyssey/Odissi Conference" being curated in her honor. Guru Poushali Mukherjee passed away recently, leaving a significant legacy in the world of Odissi dance.
