🪔 About
Ragini Madan is a Kathak dancer who was brought up in Delhi, India, and currently resides in the UK. She received rigorous training in Kathak under Guru Padmashri Shovana Narayan for over 12 years, encompassing both practical aspects and theoretical knowledge of the dance form. Her guru also provided her with numerous early performance opportunities, contributing to her experience and learning as a dancer. Madan has developed a unique style of classical Divine Kathak dance, focusing on Bhajans by poets like Meera, Surdas, Kabir, Ras Khan, and Tulsidas, incorporating highly rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic elements. She also explores Sufiana Kathak dance, integrating poetic traditions within her performances. Throughout her career, Ragini Madan has performed extensively, both as a soloist in India and internationally. Her international performances include the Festival of India in Mexico (December 2019), Tashkent, Uzbekistan (February 2013), the Indus Festival in Cambridge (March 2019), and a performance of "OM" in Baden, Switzerland (December 2014). She has also performed at venues such as the India Habitat Centre (September 2018) and the Norwich Puppet Theatre (March 2016). In addition to performing, Ragini Madan teaches Kathak in the UK, aiming to pass on the knowledge and empowering teaching style she learned from her guru.
