Rajalakshmi Roopesh Lakshman is an accomplished Indian classical dancer and a dedicated exponent of Bharatanatyam. Her profound journey in the art form commenced early in life, leading her to train under the tutelage of highly respected gurus, Smt. Chitra Visweswaran and Smt. Sukanya Ravindhar. Further solidifying her artistic foundation, she has also been associated with CAPA for advanced training in Bharatanatyam. As a performer, Rajalakshmi Roopesh Lakshman is a familiar and esteemed presence during Chennai’s celebrated Margazhi dance season, where she regularly presents solo, duet, and group performances at prominent sabhas. Her performances are characterized by expressive abhinaya and intricate footwork, captivating audiences with her devotion to the classical tradition. Beyond her stage presence, she is also a prolific choreographer, creating innovative and traditional pieces that are performed by her students and for various productions. Demonstrating her commitment to nurturing future generations of dancers, Rajalakshmi Roopesh Lakshman founded and currently heads Nalinam Nrithyalaya, a Bharatanatyam academy situated in Kilpauk, Chennai. The academy serves as a vibrant hub for learning and practicing Bharatanatyam, offering comprehensive training to aspiring artists. Under her guidance, students at Nalinam Nrithyalaya undertake rigorous training, culminating in significant milestones such as Arangetrams. Notably, Kumari N. Priyadarshini, a disciple of Rajalakshmi Roopesh Lakshman, presented her inaugural Arangetram in July 2026, a testament to the academy's dedication to classical dance education. Nalinam Nrithyalaya actively engages with the wider dance community through its presence on social media platforms, including Facebook and YouTube, where it shares insights into its classes, performances, and the artistic development of its students.
