🪔 About
Rajeswari Sainath is a renowned Indian Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and teacher based in Hyderabad, India. Born in Hyderabad, she began her Bharatanatyam training at the age of seven under Guru Vazhuvoor K.R. Radhakrishnan. She later continued her studies with Guru V.S. Ramamoorthy, and then extensively under Guru Indira Rajan and Pandanallur Srinivasa Pillai, deeply imbibing the Pandanallur style of dance. Her artistic journey spans over five decades, during which she has established an extraordinary command over 'laya' (rhythm), further mentored by the late mridangam maestro Karaikudi Mani. Sainath is known for her traditional Bharatanatyam recitals, adhering to the margam format, and for her innovative choreographies. Her notable ballets include 'Sri Lalitha Vaibhavam', 'Rajsimha' (based on Lord Narasimha), and productions tracing the river Godavari, such as 'Ode to the River', which focused on environmental themes. She also pioneered a unique medical dance ballet titled 'Neurobiology of Dance: Connecting Mind and Body Neural Circuits Modulating Through Dance'. She has performed at prestigious venues globally, including a solo performance at the Sydney Opera House's main concert hall, and has collaborated with artists like the Australian Art Orchestra. Beyond performing, Rajeswari Sainath is dedicated to teaching. She is the director of 'Sruthi Laya Kendra Natarajaalaya', an institute founded by Guru Karaikudi Mani, which has its headquarters in Hyderabad and a global network of students. She also co-leads the Vyshnavie Natya Centre (VNC) in Secunderabad and Filmnagar, where she provides direct instruction. She holds a PhD in dance, with her research focusing on the mathematical aspects of dance and movements.
