Rina Jana is a distinguished Indian classical Odissi dancer, recognized as a senior disciple of the legendary Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra and also having received affectionate instructions from Sanjukta Panigrahi. She is considered one of the frontline exponents of Odissi, having carved a niche for herself as an acknowledged master of this complex art form. Jana is particularly noted for her excellence in Abhinaya, or interpretative dance, where she excels in conveying varying nuances of a composition. Her performances are characterized by graceful and lucid movements, flawless execution of brilliant choreography, and a spontaneous rapport with connoisseurs. She has performed extensively at prestigious events such as the Festival of India in Germany, Konark Dance Festival, Vrindavan National Festival, Nishagandhi Festival, and Kalakshetra Foundation. Rina Jana holds the distinction of being a Top Grade Artist in Doordarshan and an Outstanding Grade Artist in ICCR, New Delhi. She is also empanelled with the Sangeet Natak Academy, India International Rural Cultural Centre, and the State Music Academy. Beyond performing, Jana is an External Examiner with Rabindra Bharati University and Rajya Sangeet Academy, and heads the Odissi department at the Calcutta School Of Music. She is also the Secretary of "Krittika," an NGO dedicated to promoting Odissi dance and dance therapy, providing a platform for aspiring learners based on the traditional Guru-Shishya system.
