Sahana Raghavendra Maiya is an accomplished Indian classical dancer and theatre artist, primarily known for her Odissi performances. Her dance journey began at the tender age of four with Bharatanatyam, initially under the tutelage of Vidwan Keshav Kumar from Shimoga. She continued her rigorous Bharatanatyam training for approximately two decades at Kalakshiti, a renowned institution in Bengaluru, guided by Professor M.R. Krishnamurthy. During this period, she performed extensively across India, both as a soloist and as part of a group. Alongside her dance education, Maiya also received training in Carnatic music and flute. Her artistic path took a significant turn when she was drawn to the lyrical beauty of Odissi dance. She commenced her Odissi training with Guru Uday Kumar Shetty and subsequently honed her skills at Nrityantar, a leading Odissi dance institution in Bengaluru, under the expert guidance of Guru Smt. Madhulita Mohapatra. Sahana regularly performs as a soloist and is also a key member of the acclaimed Nrityantar Dance Ensemble, gracing numerous prestigious dance festivals both within India and internationally. She has also ventured into theatre, associating with "Rangaratha - Indian Performing Arts Company." Her collaborative works include "Shakthi," a unique blend of Odissi and Yakshagana directed by Aasif Kshathriya, presented in a 360-degree format, and "Shiva Tantra," an amalgamation of Bharatanatyam, Odissi, and Kathak. Sahana Raghavendra Maiya also imparts her knowledge by teaching Odissi classes for both adults and children under the umbrella of Nrityantar.
