Dandibhotla Srinivasa Venkata Sastry, widely known as DSV Sastry, is a distinguished figure in Indian Classical Dance, particularly renowned for his contributions to Kuchipudi. He is a multi-faceted artist, excelling as a vocalist, nattuvanar, music composer, and dance choreographer. Sastry received his training in Carnatic and Yakshagana Sangeetham under the tutelage of Sri Pasumarthy Venu Gopala Krishna Sarma. For Kuchipudi dance, he trained under the esteemed gurus Sri Vedantam Radhesyam and Sri Vedantam Rattayya Sarma. His academic qualifications include a "Sangeeta Alankar" degree in Carnatic Vocal from Akhila Bharata Gandharva Mahavidyalay Mandal, Mumbai, and a Bachelor of Arts in Carnatic Music with a Gold Medal from Potti Sree Ramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad. DSV Sastry has an impressive record of composing music for 198 dance dramas and has been instrumental in providing music or nattuvangam for numerous prestigious contemporary Kuchipudi performances globally. He has collaborated with and provided vocal support and nattuvangam for many celebrated dancers and gurus, including Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam, Sri Raja Reddy and Smt. Radha Reddy, Dr. Sobha Naidu, and Sri Pasumarthy Ramalinga Sastry, among others. He is also recognized for his unique skill in composing jathis for Kuchipudi and has even created a new raga named 'Sripriya'. Sastry is the founder of the Lasyakalpa Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to showcasing Indian traditional art forms through annual dance festivals held in Hyderabad. Currently, he serves as a vocalist in the Department of Dance at the University of Hyderabad, where he also imparts training in Carnatic Music and Kuchipudi dance.
