Shavira Narrandes is a dedicated Kathak dancer, teacher, and choreographer, making significant contributions to Indian classical dance in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Her journey in Kathak began in 2004 at the India School of Dance, Music & Theatre Inc., where she immersed herself in the art form. After five years of rigorous training, Narrandes achieved her Aradhana, a formal graduation, in 2009, as part of the first group in Manitoba to complete this milestone in Kathak. Demonstrating exceptional commitment and skill, she further distinguished herself in 2019 by becoming the first Kathak dancer in Manitoba to successfully complete a Rangmanch Pravesh, a solo debut performance signifying her entry to the professional stage. Since completing her Aradhana, Narrandes has been actively involved in teaching Kathak and Classical Bollywood classes to students of all ages. Her leadership extends to managing the Kathak department at the India School of Dance, Music & Theatre Inc., where she organizes class plans, schedules, and facilitates student enrollment. In 2017, she co-instructed the province's second Kathak group through their Aradhana, further solidifying her role in nurturing the next generation of dancers. Narrandes is passionate about preserving the rich cultural heritage of Indian classical dance and uses her platform to foster cross-cultural understanding and appreciation within the community through performances and workshops. Beyond Kathak, she has also recently embarked on learning Odissi dance, showcasing her continuous dedication to expanding her artistic repertoire. Her contributions have been recognized with awards such as the Rebello Scholarship and Gold and Gold Honours from the Manitoba Provincial Dance Festival.
