🪔 About
Dr. Shriya Srinivasan is a distinguished Bharatanatyam dancer and choreographer, uniquely blending her artistic pursuits with a prominent career as an assistant professor of bioengineering at Harvard University, where she directs the Harvard Biohybrid Organs and Neuroprosthetics (BIONICS) lab. She commenced her Bharatanatyam training at the age of five, learning for over 25 years under the tutelage of her mother and Guru, Sujatha Srinivasan, who is the Artistic Director of Shri Kalaa Mandir. Dr. Srinivasan completed her Arangetram in June 2008. Known for her vibrant stage presence, emotive capacity, and seamless integration of sharp nritta (pure dance) with elegant grace, Dr. Srinivasan is celebrated for bringing contemporary social themes to life through the pristine form of classical Indian art. In 2015, she co-founded the Anubhava Dance Company with Joshua George, a collective of second-generation Indian-American Bharatanatyam dancers and musicians that has toured over 18 cities with its innovative productions. Her choreographic works include "Vivarta: Transformations," an original piece on environmental conservation that premiered in 2019, "Manas: The Charioteer Within," and "Samayam: A moment in Eternity." Dr. Srinivasan also conducts workshops on the biomechanics of dance, integrating her scientific expertise to explore the physiological principles and anatomy of movement. Her research extends to the intersection of science and dance, investigating how haptic feedback interfaces can enhance dance learning and performance, a project she developed as "Experiencing Dance Through Haptics." Awards & Honours: Delsys Prize, Lemelson-MIT Student Prize, Forbes 30 Under 30, MIT Technology Review Innovator Under 35.
