Sivahami Sivashankar is a distinguished South Indian classical dancer, primarily known for her expertise in Bharatanatyam. Her journey into the world of classical Indian arts began at a remarkably young age, as she started her training in both classical Indian dance and vocal expressions when she was just five years old. Sivashankar honed her Bharatanatyam skills under the guidance of her esteemed Guru, Shri Prakash Yaddagude, at the renowned Bhavan Centre in London. The Bhavan Centre, established in 1972, stands as a significant institution in the United Kingdom, dedicated to the comprehensive teaching and promotion of classical Indian arts, including various dance forms, yoga, languages, and cultural practices. Throughout her career, Sivahami Sivashankar has graced numerous prestigious stages, showcasing her talent and the profound beauty of Bharatanatyam. Notably, she performed at the Queen's Commonwealth Annual Opening Ceremony at Westminster Abbey, an event of considerable international prominence, where she appeared alongside her fellow artists from the Bhavan Centre. This performance underscores her ability to represent Indian classical dance on a global platform. More recently, in April 2024, Sivashankar was featured as a performer for "Psy-Sisters x The British Museum: Dance Through Time," an event held at the British Museum's India Gallery.
