Smt. Ilakshi Thakor, born on April 12, 1936, in Pune, India, is a revered Bharatanatyam maestro and legendary guru. She received her education from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. Smt. Thakor is a distinguished disciple of Guru Shri Ramesh Kubernath Tanjorkar. She is recognized for her significant contributions to Indian classical dance, particularly for blending Gujarati literature with the traditional Bharatanatyam form. Smt. Ilakshi Thakor founded the Nrityabharati Performing Arts dance centre in Ahmedabad, which was established around 1960. Through her institution, she has dedicated her life to shaping generations of classical dancers, leaving an enduring impact on the art form. Her son, Guru Sri Chandan Thakor, a well-noted choreographer, now serves as the Founder-Director of Nrityabharati Performing Arts, continuing her legacy. Her granddaughter-in-law, Nirali Chandan Thakor, also trained under her guidance and is a prominent teacher at the academy.
