Prof. Dr. Sruti Bandopadhay, born on October 8, 1962, in Kolkata, India, is a distinguished performer-scholar and a leading exponent of Manipuri Dance. She received extensive training from eminent gurus including Guru Bipin Singh, Guru Kalavati Devi, Padmasree Guru Darshana Jhaveri, Ojha Babu Singh, Ojha Gourakisor Sharma, and Prof. Jiten Singh. Her dedication to propagating Manipuri dance beyond Manipur's borders is widely recognized. Dr. Bandopadhay holds a PhD (1996) from Rabindra Bharati University and a D.Litt (2010) from Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, for her voluminous work on Manipuri Dance. She has been a "Top" Grade artist of Manipuri Dance on Doordarshan since 1998. Her career spans over three decades, marked by performances in major national and international festivals. She is a recognized artist of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Indian Council for Cultural Relations, and Eastern Zonal Cultural Center. Academically, she has held significant positions, including Professor in Dance at Rabindra Bharati University and currently serves as the Principal of Sangit Bhavana and Head of the Department of Rabindrasangit, Dance and Drama at Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan. She has choreographed numerous acclaimed productions, such as "Bhaktirasasudhasara Gita Govinda," "Vasantarasa," and Tagore productions like "Bajao re mohana banshi" and "Offerings". Her scholarly contributions include seven books and numerous articles, with notable publications like "Manipuri Dance: An Assessment on History & Presentation" and "Rabindranritya: The Dance Idiom created by Tagore". She has supervised 20 successful PhD candidates.
