Sukanya Borah is a young and promising Kathak dancer originally from Guwahati, Assam, India. She has dedicated herself to the art form, undergoing rigorous training for nine years as of June 2020, which suggests her training commenced around 2011. Borah has successfully completed her Nipun in Kathak Dance, a significant milestone in her classical dance journey. She has been fortunate to receive guidance and training from esteemed gurus Marami Medhi and Meghranjani Medhi, whose mentorship has shaped her artistic development. Throughout her career, Sukanya Borah has actively engaged in performances and educational initiatives. She performed at the India International Dance Festival in 2019 and also showcased her talent at the 'Navodit' festival. Her dedication and skill have been recognized with several accolades, including the 'Best dancer' award at Handique Girls' College for two consecutive years (2016-2017) and another 'best dancer' award at Cotton University in 2020. She also secured the first position in the Kalashram Kathak Contest at the regional level and received the prestigious B-High Award from Doordarshan Kendra. Beyond performing, Sukanya Borah is also a dedicated teacher and choreographer. She began assisting her gurus in various workshops around 2018, gaining valuable experience in dance instruction. More recently, she has expanded her teaching endeavors, conducting semi-classical dance workshops in Heidelberg, Germany, in April, May, and June 2025, and offering online workshops in July 2025, reaching a wider audience. In March 2025, she was also part of a Workshop Demonstration series on Kathak dance organized by SPIC MACAY in Meghalaya. Her work encompasses both traditional Kathak and semi-classical dance forms, reflecting her versatility and commitment to promoting Indian classical dance.
