Vaisali Navaneethan is an emerging Bharatanatyam dancer based in the United States. She commenced her formal training in Indian classical dance at a young age, demonstrating a strong aptitude for the art form. In 2019, as a student of the AmudhaSri Dance School, she participated in "Navashakthi," a theatrical dance drama focused on women's empowerment, performing the role of a Deva in a fundraising event held at the J. Everett Collins Center in Andover, Massachusetts. Her dedication to Bharatanatyam culminated in her arangetram, a significant debut solo performance, which took place on June 24th, 2023. At the age of 15, Vaisali's arangetram was hosted by the Lasya School of Dance at the Grafton High School auditorium. The performance was choreographed by Guru Sapna Krishnan. During her arangetram, Vaisali showcased her technical prowess and expressive capabilities through a diverse repertoire. Her recital began with a misra alarippu, followed by a Ganesha Stuthi in Hamsanadam, and a Shanmugha Kauthuvam, a composition by Guru Madurai R Muralidharan. She also presented "Tunga Tarange Gange," a Sadasiva Brahmendra kriti, and the intricate daru varnam ‘Maathe Malaydwaja,’ which featured sancharis depicting Parvathi's love for Ganesha and Muruga, and Devi's portrayal as Chamundeshwari. Her performance also included "Baso More," a Meera Bhajan dedicated to Lord Krishna. Reviewers noted her confidence, flawless accuracy, strong command over taalam, and ability to transition between fast-paced sequences and more controlled, elegant presentations, portraying a kaleidoscope of emotions with maturity. While still early in her career, Vaisali Navaneethan is recognized for her promising talent and commitment to Bharatanatyam.
