🪔 About

Guru Kalamandalam Hareeshkumar is a distinguished figure in the realm of Indian classical performing arts, primarily celebrated for his profound contributions to Kathakali music as a renowned playback singer and dedicated educator. Born in Vellinezhi, a village in Kerala's Palakkad district historically significant for nurturing Kathakali maestros, Hareeshkumar embarked on his artistic journey by specializing in Kathakali music. He received his initial training at the esteemed Kerala Kalamandalam, a premier institution for traditional performing arts, where he honed his skills under the tutelage of eminent gurus such as Neelakantan Nambisan and Sivaraman Nair. Following his institutional training, he continued his advanced studies privately with Sri Nambisan, deepening his understanding and mastery of the art form. Hareeshkumar's career as a teacher commenced at respected cultural centers, including Kottakkal PSV Natyasamgham and later at Perur Gandhi Seva Sadanam, where he imparted his knowledge to aspiring artists. His exceptional teaching abilities and committed approach to his students are widely acknowledged and admired. He is recognized for his melodious voice and his evocative rendition of Kathakali padams, the intricate playback songs that narrate the classical Kerala dance-drama. Currently, he serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kathakali Music at Kerala Kalamandalam, a deemed-to-be-University of Art and Culture, located in Cheruthuruthi, Thrissur district. Beyond his primary focus on Kathakali music, Hareeshkumar has also developed expertise in other traditional art forms, including Ottanthullal, classical dance, and Sabarimala-related Ayyappan pattu. His artistic journey has seen him perform on numerous stages, both within India and internationally, contributing significantly to the propagation and appreciation of Kathakali music. He resides in Attingal, Kerala.
