Pandit Girdhari Maharaj was a great master of Indian music and traditional Kathak dance, whose family perpetuated this artistic tradition for over eight generations. He practiced both music and dance until 1972. He taught Kathak, music, and singing to his son, Kamal Kant, and also to Megha Jagawat. The Shri Laxmi Narayan Nrityashram Association was named after him.
