🪔 About

Radha Reddy, born on February 15, 1955, in Kotalgaon, Andhra Pradesh (now Telangana), is a celebrated Indian classical dancer and guru renowned for her mastery of the Kuchipudi dance form. She began her rigorous training under the tutelage of Guru Vedantam Prahlada Sarma at Sri Siddhendra Kalakshetram in Kuchipudi village and later at Kalakshetram, Eluru. Reddy also pursued formal arts education, earning a Diploma in Choreography from the Natya Institute of Choreography in Delhi. Together with her husband, Raja Reddy, she forms the iconic Raja-Radha Reddy duo, credited with elevating Kuchipudi to global prominence while preserving its traditional essence. Their performances are known for blending masculine vigor and lyrical charm, often portraying mythological pairs. The duo has performed extensively across India and in over 105 countries, including notable appearances for US President Gerald Ford and at prestigious international festivals like the Avignon International Dance Festival in France and the Salzburg Festival in Austria. They also choreographed a segment for the 2010 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in Delhi. In 1976, Radha Reddy co-founded Natya Tarangini – Institute of Kuchipudi Dance in New Delhi, an institution dedicated to teaching, choreographing, and propagating Kuchipudi. The institute also hosts the annual Parampara Series, a national festival of music and dance. Her contributions to Indian classical dance have been widely recognized with numerous accolades, including the Padma Shri in 1984, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1988, and the Padma Bhushan in 2000. She was also conferred an honorary doctorate by the University of Hyderabad in 2010 and elected a Fellow of Sangeet Natak Akademi in 2022-23. Radha Reddy's legacy extends through her many disciples, including her daughters Yamini and Bhavana Reddy, who continue to propagate the art form globally.
