🪔 About

Natya Thilagam Saroja Kameswaran was a senior Bharatanatyam teacher in Mylapore, Chennai. She had her initial training under Bhupal, the father of the karana exponent Swarnamukhi, before becoming a pupil of the natyacharya S.K. Kameswaran, whom she later married. In 1967 the two of them launched Sri Mahalakshmi Natyalaya on Bazaar Lane in Mylapore, named after their daughter Mahalakshmi. Alongside the school, Saroja Kameswaran served for over forty years as dance faculty at Rosary Matriculation School for Girls in San Thome — a tenure that made her a familiar teacher to generations of Mylapore students. She taught children classical dance exclusively. She passed away on 7 August 2022, aged 79.
