Shreelata Suresh is an internationally acclaimed dancer, teacher, and choreographer of Indian classical dance, primarily Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. She is recognized as a leading artiste in the United States, where she has cultivated a love for these art forms for over 25 years. Suresh is the founder and artistic director of the Vishwa Shanthi Dance Academy (VSDA) and Vishwa Shanthi Performing Arts (VSPA), based in Northern California. Her early dance training began in Bombay (now Mumbai), and she had her first performance at the age of 11. To pursue dance more seriously, she later moved to Chennai. Shreelata Suresh received her training from illustrious gurus including Vyjayanthimala Bali, Ramaswamy Bhagavathar, Dakshinamurthy Pillai, and Delhi V Krishnamoorthy. As a cultural ambassador for India, she has performed in over 25 countries through stage and television appearances. In 1999, Shreelata Suresh founded the Vishwa Shanthi Dance Academy, initially in her family's garage, which has since expanded to five branches and trained over 1,000 students. Through VSDA, she aims to unify artistic skill and devotion for the integrated development of individuals and the community. Her choreography, which often combines Bharatanatyam techniques with yoga and meditation, is noted for being both celebratory and contemplative. Her group choreography, "Poorthi," was nominated as a finalist at the Isadora Duncan Dance Awards. Suresh has also served multiple times as a master artist in the Alliance for California Traditional Arts (ACTA) Apprenticeship Program, providing intensive one-on-one training to apprentices.
