Sumathi Vikram is an Indian Bharatanatyam artist and teacher currently based in Austin, Texas, United States. She received her initial training in Bharatanatyam under the esteemed Guru Smt. Indira Rajan. She continues to enhance her artistic journey by learning from accomplished teachers such as A Lakshmanaswamy, Dr. Apoorva Jayaraman, and Smt. Shreelata Suresh. Before relocating to Austin in June 2019, Sumathi Vikram dedicated over a decade to teaching Bharatanatyam at the Vishwa Shanthi Dance Academy in California, where she served as the co-director for its Fremont location. Her passion for teaching is central to her artistic endeavors, as she aims to share the Indian classical art form through both her performances and classes. In collaboration with Dr. Apoorva Jayaraman, Sumathi Vikram co-founded RootEd, an arts initiative focused on re-engaging audiences with Indian classical arts. RootEd's mission encompasses both audience development and artist development. Beyond her roles as a performer and teacher, she actively volunteers her time and expertise in projects designed to present Indian performing arts to mainstream audiences. Sumathi Vikram holds a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Madras, Chennai.
